Painting Aura Mask #1
I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been working hard in preparation for an upcoming exhibition. (Details of which can be found at the bottom of the post.)
Over the next few days I’ll be sharing what I’ve been up to.
Recently I have been working on a mask that stands as a metaphor for the unseen experience of visual migraine aura. This mask is based on my own experience of migraine aura in which one side of my vision blurs. I have used the human face as my subject as it is a sight we are all familiar with, when changed into something strange and uncanny it emulates the anxiety migraineurs feel when suffering an attack.
Below are some images I took whilst painting the mask. For a video of how I made the mask click here.
The paintwork is made up of 14 layers with a variety of painting techniques. I hope you enjoy viewing the progression to the finished paint job!
The mask is part of my upcoming exhibition, details of which are below. Everyone welcome!
